Hey all,
Just curious about soundclick. Seems everything but the kitchen sink
is up there. New songs (good or not so good) come and go like leaves.
Is it possible to 'chart'? (say in the top 100 and stay there for more
than a day?) Is it worth messing with?

Hey Ben,

I've had songs up on soundclick for about 6 months now. A few have
cracked the top ten and stayed for a while (2-3 weeks). I always have
at least 2 in the top 100. The problem is that you, of course, must
promote. And we all know what that means... either shameless plugging
within the newsgroups like this one, or just tagging your link along
with your sig on non-related posts. They do host everything including
the kitchen sink, and it is quite a crowded, though well categorized,
site. It's certainly worth messing with if you want your material
heard, commented upon, critiqued etc. Personally, I spend a shitload
of time visiting the links others post here, and a lot of them are
Soundclick links. I know a lot of the others on this group do the
same.

There's no cost other than a little time investment, and it's always
good to hear what others have to say. From my personal standpoint it's
been rather helpful. High charting attracted the attention of a small
LA record label to whom I am now signed, which in turn resulted in 2
of the songs being licensed to a Canadian documentary film company who
will be using the songs in their upcoming film. It also put me in
touch with several local musicians looking to part with some decent
money for a few hours of slide work on their projects.

So yea... Soundclick can be helpful. I've recently opened up on
download.com also, and I can tell you that their site is not nearly as
sophisticated, and I doubt that it draws as many listeners.

Pop that stuff up there bud.... whad'ya got to lose. Let's hear it.

Regards,
Lewis

It's certainly worth a shot, and fun to do. I've put some songs up, and have
charted. It is great to know your music is bveing listened to, no matter what
the outcome.

I prefer to call this "networking" (laughs)

Agreed. it can be valuable. Any opportunity to be heard should be taken...but
you must be ready to promote as vigorously as you wrote and recorded.

Good Luck

I have a song or two there simply to allow friends who live far away to
hear them. Soundclick does plug you into their "charts" and gives you
stats, but unless you promote your material hard (which I do not) no one
listens. There's simply too much there. A random sample of their various
charts reveal that much of it is nonsense.
