I'm a metal/hard rock guitarist (Metallica/Slayer/Fear Factory/etc),
but I use a clean channel quite a bit too. This pawn shop by my house
has an AVT150h with an AVT412a for super cheap ($600). So I'm pricing
all kinds of marshall gear, and if it's all new, the AVT halfstack is
about 1/2 the price of a jcm800 with a 1960. What's the difference?
As far as I can tell, the AVT150h is a tube amp, and as powerful (if
not more) than any marshall head I can find. The cab's all have
celestian 12's. How different can they be?

I can't find a lot of info on the differences between these 2
halfstacks, so I'm looking for opinions on why this AVT stuff is so
much cheaper. And money aside, what's the best marshall 1/2 stack for
a metal guitarist?

I'm gonna buy the AVT regardless, I can resell it for more if I don't
like it, but I'm sure it's 50x better than my existing amp.. Would it
be worth it to sell all and get a higher end halfstack?

The AVT is a valvestate which means the power stage is solid-state and
the pre amp is valve.
The JCM800is a monster amp. If that is the tone you want, nothing is as
good but I reckon the AVT is possibly more flexible and practical.
The cabinets have different speakers too. The 1960 has G75/12 and the
412 has specially made celestions for the AVT range. What the difference
technically is, I don't know

Nope. It's a Valvestate.

Be sure you know that "t00b watts are bigger than
solid state watts". It's true, generally.

I don't think we can answer that. If you can't tell, it
doesn't matter. This could mean the AVT is a better choice,
for you. This being said, the JCM800 is arguably the
gold standard for metal acts like you've mentioned.

How much is it gonna cost you if you buy the cheaper amp,
and decide later to trade up? That's what you have to
figure out. And be skeptical of resale on Valvestates....
